South Tabor Neighborhood, SE Portland

Feel, Known For –

Portland’s South Tabor neighborhood is known for more affordable housing options than neighborhoods to the north and named after the famed 190+ acre Mount Tabor Park that includes picnic tables, sport courts, playground, off-leash doggie area and miles of trails.  Two well-known colleges nearby are also a big draw for students, Warner Pacific and Western Seminary.  Also close to the Mount Tabor Reservoirs.  More on SE Portland real estate and Portland neighborhoods…

South Tabor Real Estate, Home Settings –

Real estate in the South Tabor neighborhood of SE Portland is mainly set on flat land at the base of a mountain (a volcanic cinder cone I believe, and really more of a huge lump than towering mountain), to the south as you may have guessed.  Being close to of one of the highest points in a cool city has its perks.  Homes are located near desirable Mount Tabor park but in a more affordable location than what’s considered “Mount Tabor.”  Mature deciduous trees and vegetation split up by the common sidewalk.  Green and moderately manicured landscape where homeowners do their own gardening.  Lots are 5000’, rectangular and flat, no city views.  Walkscore tends to not be real high, near 50.  Browse all Portland Homes for Sale immediately.

South Tabor Homes For Sale, Prices –

Homes for sale in the South Tabor neighborhood run right in line with overall Portland averages, $250 – $300k.  Detached homes for sale are pretty much the only option, although there are a few condos and attached housing options on the fringes of this neighborhood. 2 bedroom homes of 1200’ enter our market below $200k and may be quite original (in need of update).  Desirable larger 3+ bedroom homes of 2000 square feet push over the $300k price point.  In comparison to the rest of inner-city Portland this is a neighborhood pinpointing buyers who’d like to stay somewhat close to downtown and are budget conscious.  It’s a more entry-level priced area, providing good options for first-time buyers.   Compare South Tabor homes for sale to other Portland Homes for Sale.

South Tabor Home Styles –

You’ll find modest classic detached South Tabor homes blend mainly 1940’s and 50’s construction.  Home styles are simple, modest and not overly outdone.  Bungalow, ranch, and cottages are labels used to define Mount Tabor real estate.  Low pitched roof lines on single-level homes, nearly all of which host a red brick living room fireplace with tall exterior chimney!  Single level layouts are complimented with bonus basement bedrooms or recreational spaces below grade.  Interiors are often original or contain simple updates and price conscious home owners keep style within budget.  Bathrooms are limited to 1 in small homes but at least 2 in most where size averages near 2000’ for both main and basement totals combined.  Garages are single car, detached or attached so there is off-street parking for all homes.
