Mississippi Neighborhood, N Portland

Feel , Known For –

Portland’s Mississippi neighborhood is a perfect example of urban revitalization.  A few years ago this was not nearly as trendy and desirable as it is today.  A modern-day hippie street filled with locals who you’d frequently see in the Alberta Arts neighborhood.  Shops, brews, tattoos, ties maybe but not suits, people and community represent free spirits.  Popularity has soared over recent years and so has the real estate value.  A desirable community of often younger generations it’s one of our less-known residential suburbs in the Boise neighborhood that’s quickly gaining appeal.  Vibrant color motifs in this artsy area!  More on Portland real estate and Portland neighborhoods…

Mississippi Home Settings –

Detached single family homes are set on level roads and lots but overall the neighborhood slopes to the south towards downtown Portland.  Not many condo options here.  Deciduous trees line old streets between the curb and sidewalk which also provides the perfect gardening areas for residents.  Believe it or not Portland does get plenty of sun and summertime in this area is a beautiful mix of horticulture.  Lots run around 50 x 100 and if you’re lucky there’ll be access to the back yard via the occasional dirt alleyway.  Houses are nestled together in inner-city style but not so close that you touch the neighbor.  Browse all Mississippi Homes for Sale immediately.

Mississippi Homes For Sale, Prices –

Affordable homes here.  Mississippi real estate prices will run just above the median.  Houses start in the $200’s for a detached 1500’ 3 bedroom 1 bath residence.  Prices can be lower and there are plenty of fixer uppers in this up and coming location.  Resale on a quality remodeled home will run up to $200k over entry level prices but overall it’s still considered affordable by comparison to upper-end areas like Irvington.  Larger homes in this neighborhood will top out over 2500’ but generally not too much bigger.  Check out all Portland Homes for Sale.

Mississippi Home Styles –

Detached brightly colored houses take up 95% of the real estate in this neighborhood.  Condos are few but available in a contemporary format and new construction.  This location doesn’t support the large house conversion to condo concept as in other areas like the NW District just across the river.  Vintage homes are old-Portland style built around the turn of the century through 1915 or so.  Numerous homes actually go back to pre-1900’s.  Styles make use of narrower city lots and tend to have 2 floors above ground.  Basements are for furnaces and laundry, not living usually.  Tons of character and styles include Victorian, traditional, craftsman and bungalows.  Colorful paint schemes welcome here, it’s an artsy area.  Pretty cool!
